Yesterday, Trump's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator testified in the Senate.

Over the last several weeks, EPA has proposed or finalized rollbacks that will lead to more air pollution — even as emerging studies show that air pollution could exacerbate COVID-19 symptoms, particularly in low-income communities and communities of color.

While the rest of the country responds around the clock to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Trump's EPA has not slowed down its attacks on our environmental progress.

Add your name to mine to tell EPA to follow the science, protect public health and stop rolling back air protections for the sake of polluters.

While Americans have been focused on overcoming the challenges of this pandemic, EPA has continued to wage new assaults on clean air and public health.

EPA weakened fuel economy and greenhouse gas standards. This rollback will lead to more air pollution and worse public health. In fact, the agency’s *own* analysis shows that its new rule kills more people than it purports to save.

EPA decided not to strengthen protections against PM pollution despite a study that demonstrates a connection between exposure to PM pollution and COVID-19-related deaths.

EPA also decided it’s no longer “appropriate and necessary” to set standards for power plants’ mercury emissions despite the grave dangers of mercury to human health and the studies that show the rule prevents 11,000 premature deaths every year and illnesses, including asthma symptoms and acute bronchitis.

Just last week, EPA reversed its decision to delay the sale of residential wood stoves, which produce a deadly mix of PM and other toxics. Despite this respiratory pandemic, EPA is using the guise of industry relief to allow Americans to keep purchasing these stoves which produce harmful smoke and soot, rather than sticking with the schedule and encouraging the purchase of cleaner, newer ones.

EPA is charged with protecting human health and the environment, but, even during this pandemic, Trump’s EPA is focused on giving handouts to polluters instead of reducing air pollution, strengthening air quality and protecting public health.

The actions taken by Trump's EPA over the last few weeks put public health at serious risk. We need EPA to protect public health and the environment, not polluters. We need EPA to serve the American people, not polluting industries.

Join me in telling Trump's EPA to heed the science and stop its assault on clean air and public health.

Thank you,

Tom
