This year, your generosity helped Jean Marc Jean, a dedicated freelance journalist from Haiti. While covering anti-government protests in February, Jean Marc was struck by a tear gas canister, resulting in the loss of an eye. Despite this injury, he remains committed to reporting the truth, even while adjusting to working from home and welcoming a new daughter, who was born just weeks after the incident.
Thanks to supporters like you, CPJ provided Jean Marc with funds for eye surgery, which included a prosthetic, and new glasses. He recently shared his deep gratitude, writing: "I salute all the members of the CPJ. I say a big thank you for all the support they have given me since 8 February 2024, the day of the confrontation with the police."
Jean Marc is back to work, continuing his courageous reporting--this is the kind of direct impact your gift to CPJ makes possible.
In one of the world's most dangerous countries for journalists, where six reporters have been killed since 2021, Jean Marc's work is essential. And with your help, CPJ will continue providing the urgent support he and other journalists need to stay safe and keep telling the stories that matter.
Please consider making a gift today. When you give to CPJ, you ensure that brave journalists like Jean Marc can continue their vital work despite the dangers they face.
With gratitude,
John Weis
Director of Development and Outreach
