We hope you're excited as we are, John: The National Immigrant Justice Center's (NIJC) Human Rights Awards virtual event is less than two weeks away! RSVP now to join us on Tuesday, June 2nd at 5:00 p.m. CDT for a powerful celebration of human rights champions and the contributions of community, business, and civic leaders. 

We'll be featuring a keynote address from our Jeanne and Joseph Sullivan Award Recipient, Aarti Shahani, a critically acclaimed author and NPR journalist. Joining her will be special guests:

  • Dolores Huerta, legendary labor and civil rights activist, co-founder of the United Farm Workers union, & founder and president of the Dolores Huerta Foundation 
  • Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot
  • Albany Park Theater Project, award-winning multi-ethnic youth theater ensemble from Chicago, IL dedicated to building a more just, equitable, and joyful world
  • Julissa Arce, best-selling author and advocate for social justice, immigrant rights, and education equality 
  • Monica McWilliams, former Chief Commissioner of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission and prominent peace activist 
  • Courageous immigrants and former NIJC clients who will share their stories

We will be awarding:

  • Ankura with the Human Rights Corporate Award for providing critical analysis and expert testimony in NIJC’s class action lawsuit challenging the government's unlawful practice of automatically transferring young immigrants from children’s shelters to immigration jails on their 18th birthdays. 
  • Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP with the Human Rights Practioner Award for routinely providing outstanding pro bono representation to immigrants, including before the U.S. Courts of Appeals.
