Congressman Al Green Issues Statement on the Recent Shootings in Sunnyside, Resulting in the Loss of Lives

(Houston, TX) — On Monday, December 23, 2024, Congressman Al Green issued a statement regarding the recent shootings as reported by news sources that resulted in the death of two men on Sunday night in Sunnyside, located in Congressman Green's district.

Congressman Al Green stated, "I am saddened by the loss of life in our community and extend my deepest sympathies to the victims’ families during this tragic time. We must prioritize the safety and security of our neighborhoods by taking action to hold those responsible for this brutality accountable, while also enhancing our efforts to prevent any future occurrences of violence. My heart goes out to the families of the many lives lost to gun violence during this holiday season, it will not be as enjoyable as it could have been. Violence that impacts any one of us directly has an adverse impact upon all of us indirectly. This indirect impact is evidenced in the need for more law enforcement, greater security infrastructure, and the need for more physical and mental health resources. We must unite to end gun violence.”
