John,
President Biden just commuted the death penalty sentences for 37 out of 40 people on federal death row.
We’re grateful to the Biden administration for this act of humanity — and even more grateful to supporters like YOU for making your voice heard.
Don’t forget y’all — when news broke about Hunter Biden’s pardon last month, we were the first out of the gate with a radical demand: that Joe Biden extend the same mercy to people with nonviolent convictions and people on federal death row.
With Donald Trump planning to resume federal executions next year, this was a matter of life or death.
We got a lot of heat for speaking out at first. But within days, Biden listened. Our efforts worked.
Now we need to amplify our other demands of President Biden before his term is up.
We’re asking everyone to sign our petition urging Biden to pre-emptively pardon any American who exercises their constitutional right to protest the Trump administration.
We can’t forget that in 2020, more than 300 protesters were hit with federal charges for protesting against police violence. Trump used his power to target dissent, silence movements, and criminalize those fighting for justice.
If Biden doesn’t act now, this Trump presidency will be even worse. Protests in defense of Palestinians, Black liberation, climate justice, immigrant rights, and democracy will bring millions into the streets. We need to protect their rights.
Time is running out — join our call for action now by adding your name to our petition calling on Biden to issue preemptive pardons to protect those who will resist Trump’s autocratic regime. We also demand pardons for those targeted with federal charges during the 2020 uprisings for racial justice.
We’re grateful for President Biden’s decision to save the lives of those who were on federal death row. But we need more to be done, and we only have a few weeks left to act.
In solidarity,
Black Lives Matter
