After Trump’s shadow VP Elon Musk met with top Republicans about cuts to the federal budget, they left the meeting saying everything is on the table. Then, Fox News reported that Musk told lawmakers that no federal program is safe, including Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Staffing levels at the Social Security Administration have fallen to near 50-year lows, even as the number of beneficiaries soars to record highs. And it could get even worse. Republicans’ proposed budget bill would slash $401 million from SSA’s current operating levels – the equivalent of closing all field offices and shutting down its helpline for about four weeks.
40% of older Americans rely on Social Security for their entire retirement income. Forcing people to face delays in applying for benefits or getting problems resolved because of staffing shortages is UNACCEPTABLE.
But that’s only the beginning of the threats Social Security will face with Trump and Musk looking to slash anything they can, all while passing massive tax cuts for the rich and privatizing the government to line billionaires’ pockets.
