John, We hope you are well and staying safe during this difficult time. Communities across the country are weathering the crisis thanks to the dedication of essential workers, including healthcare providers, first responders, grocery store clerks, and others. Public transit systems and employees are also playing an essential role by enabling pandemic-critical personnel to get to work each and every day. Some areas are starting to re-open, but we still don’t know the full health and economic impacts of the pandemic. We are just starting the process of recovering and figuring out what this means for us long term. Public transit still needs your voice to keep moving. We are asking Congress to allocate an additional $23.8 billion in emergency response and recovery funding to enable public transportation systems to continue providing essential services and help our nation rebuild. EMAIL CONGRESS NOW Support Emergency Response and Recovery Funding The COVID-19 pandemic has driven up costs for public transit systems while slashing sources of funding. Most local systems are still operating—and stretching their resources to the limit to maintain some level of services while protecting the health and safety of riders and employees. Additional funding will enable more public transit systems to continue serving pandemic-critical workers, as well as help our economy get back on its feet. Providing support for public transit will also support and create urgently needed jobs. Congress is currently considering its next steps to respond to COVID-19. Please email your lawmakers today to voice your support for emergency response and recovery funding for public transportation. Thank you, Chad Chitwood Voices for Public Transit Community Coordinator |
