Dear John,
I hope you and your family are well and enjoying the Christmas season. I can’t believe it’s already Christmas Eve.
I’m sure you have plans today, but I wanted to send this quick note and wish you a Merry Christmas!
Every year we read through the nativity story — just as I imagine you do — and I am always struck by the wisemen. Although they did not originally follow Jesus, they were compelled to seek Him and worship Him after seeing His star in the sky.
They trekked for many days and nights, through dangerous terrain and an uncomfortable meeting with King Herod, to find the Child. When they finally arrived at His humble dwelling, they opened their treasures as a sign of honor and devotion.
“And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary His mother, and they fell down and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered Him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.” — Matthew 2:11 (ESV)
These men, now followers of the newborn King, used what they had to serve Him. And God used their gifts to sustain Mary, Joseph and little Jesus over the next few years — as they lived as refugees, fleeing conflict and persecution.
God still does the same thing with our gifts today. When we offer Him what we have, He uses it to do remarkable things. Your faithful partnership with Unto is a lifeline for those in the toughest places. For refugees fleeing armed conflict, for the persecuted, for the impoverished and so many more.
As you read through the nativity story this year and reflect on God’s amazing gift to us through Jesus, I hope you are encouraged. He gave us what we could never gain ourselves — eternal hope in Him. And He wants to use us, and the gifts He has given us, to point others to Him.
May you have a wonderful Christmas filled with God’s richest blessings. Merry Christmas!
