New chief of wildlife announced at Game and Fish

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has a new chief of wildlife. *Dan Smith will lead the wildlife division* [ [link removed] ] to manage Wyoming’s diverse and charismatic fauna — as well as Game and Fish’s largest division.







Kemmerer Wildlife Crossing project on track for summer 2025 construction

The *Kemmerer Wildlife Crossing project* [ [link removed] ] on U,S. Highway 189 in southwest Wyoming is on schedule to begin construction next year. The project is possible thanks to a $24.3 million Wildlife Crossing Pilot Program discretionary grant the Federal Highway Administration awarded to the Wyoming Department of Transportation and Wyoming Game and Fish Department in December 2023. 




Altermatt named Partner of the Year by Wyoming Wildlife and Natural Resource Trust

Altermatt named Partner of the Year by Wyoming Wildlife and Natural Resource Trust

Jerry Altermatt, Wyoming Game and Fish Department terrestrial habitat biologist, was recently recognized as *2024 Partner of the Year by Wyoming Wildlife and Natural Resource Trust.* [ [link removed] ]As a regional habitat biologist, Altermatt spearheads habitat enhancement projects that benefit wildlife in the Big Horn Basin. This entails assessing need, proposing and planning projects, seeking funding and managing on-the-ground projects. 






Many Game and Fish wildlife habitat management areas to close for winter

To protect wildlife on their winter range, the majority of Wyoming Game and Fish Department wildlife habitat management areas close or have restrictions for the winter annually. *Many WHMAs are closing to human presence* [ [link removed] ] — or already have — for the season.
