No Barriers for Brooke

What to Know: Brooke Rollins has been named President Trump’s Domestic Policy Advisor.

The TPPF Take: Brooke, of course, led the Texas Public Policy Foundation for 15 years before joining the administration in 2018 to become an Assistant to the President working in the Office of American Innovation.

“Brooke is an exceptional leader who has served the president and the country well,” says TPPF’s Kevin Roberts. “She is an energetic and committed policy innovator who is dedicated to solving some of the country’s most challenging issues. We are thrilled the president has chosen Brooke to drive his domestic policy agenda and continue the work of restoring American prosperity across the country.”

Illegal Border Crossings Slow

What to Know: The COVID-19 pandemic has slowed illegal immigration to the U.S. to “a near halt,” one expert says.

The TPPF Take: Illegal immigration is dangerous, even without a pandemic to worry about.

“For years, there has been a call and increasingly urgent need for strengthened border security, as well as for reformed immigration and asylum procedures,” says TPPF’s Grace Watson. “During this respite from normal migration patterns, policymakers would do well to determine what measures could successfully attain these ends.”

Keeping Elections Honest

What to Know: The Texas Supreme Court has—for now—stopped the expansion of mail-in ballots for upcoming elections. It will soon have a more formal ruling on the matter.

The TPPF Take: We must keep Texas elections fair and free of fraud.

“We owe it to Texas to ensure that the cure isn’t worse than the disease with calls to expand mail-in balloting,” says TPPF’s Quico Canseco. “We must ensure the integrity of one of our most essential rights as citizens—voting in free and fair elections. Because of the risks, including inaccurate rolls, vulnerability to fraud, and the sheer logistical challenges, a rush to expanding vote by mail would harm the rights of all Texans.”
