Hey Young Dems,

We hope the heat wave has prepared you because this month’s General Membership meeting we will be amending the club’s platform! If it’s been a while since you read it you have a few days to pour over it to provide your input. As we grow as a club we must update the documents which express what we stand for and in order for this club to represent you we need you to tell us what’s important to you, so please join us or email your suggestions if you can’t make it.

We will be meeting August 28th from 7pm - 9pm at 2044 Franklin Street, Oakland, CA.

Did you know that Generation Z is now graduating from college?!
And, as you could probably guess, the Gen Z-ers' views on a range of issues - from the current president to racial equality and climate change - mirror those of Millennials. Gen-Z is "diverse and on track to be the most well-educated generation yet," and they are "moving toward adulthood with a liberal set of attitudes and an openness to emerging social trends" (Pew Research Center).
This is why, at Emerge California, we are excited to connect with Democratic women in these younger generations. We know they will be the answer to our current political climate and we want to see them serving in elected office!
To get the conversation started with the amazing women of Gen Z and the Millennial generation, we are hosting a Young Dem Women Digital Info Session on August 21 in partnership with IGNITE to provide a roadmap of things to do when thinking of running, demystify the various political opportunities open to them, and discuss how they can get involved and apply to Emerge California!
Will you join us in investing in our young Democratic women? If so, please help us by:
Thank you. We are excited to see more and more young women declaring their intention to serve in political office. With your help, we know we can recruit, train and help them WIN!
Cheers,
Melanie

Close the Gap California is a statewide campaign launched in 2013 to close the gender gap in the California Legislature by 2028. By recruiting outstanding, progressive women in targeted districts and preparing them to launch competitive campaigns, we are changing the face of the Legislature one cycle at a time. Nine CTGCA recruits are serving today, eight of them women of color. Our recruits are pro-choice, pro-public school funding and committed to fight poverty.

Progressive women picked up a record 11 seats in CTGCA’s target districts in 2018 and 2019, sending California from a 20-year low in number of women serving (21%) as of 2017, to a tie with its all-time high of 31% today.

Join us as we build to 50% by 2028!
