Tommie McDonald was a British producer who had been making porn films professionally for years.

In 2020, Exodus Cry began exposing how mainstream porn companies, such as Pornhub, were profiting off victims of trafficking and sexual exploitation.

After our message went viral, Tommie heard about it—but he didn’t believe it at first.

Then, he began to discover that these crimes were actually happening around him, involving people he knew, without him realizing it.

He shared, “I was blind to the harrowing reality of sex trafficking in porn, believing it was just a myth by Exodus Cry. My heart breaks now, knowing the truth.”

Tommie contacted us and I spoke with him over a series of Zoom calls. He invited me onto his podcast and we discussed at length how the sex trade was preying on vulnerable girls.

He began speaking out about abuse taking place in the porn industry and he made more than a few enemies.

Eventually, Tommie decided to quit the porn industry and instead focus on his podcast and creating documentaries.

I met Tommie in person in Amsterdam earlier this year (I was coincidentally there at the same time). I was able to connect him with some of our contacts there for his video project investigating Amsterdam’s red light district.

He just released that video project days ago.

In it, he walks the streets of Amsterdam, interviewing two women sold behind the windows, anti-trafficking advocates, tourists and sex buyers.

The film powerfully paints a clear picture of the tragedy unfolding in the world’s most famous red light district, spotlighting why, to uproot this injustice, we need laws that better protect women and strongly penalize sex buyers.

It feels surreal and incredibly redemptive to watch a former porn producer leave the sex trade, and instead use his camera to boldly spotlight its crimes. (See his inspiring social post at the bottom of this email)

This is why we create films and campaigns. To open eyes, to change laws—and, ultimately, to change hearts.

Our documentaries and law-changing campaigns are reaching millions of people around the world, but the important thing isn’t that people merely watch or learn about our content.

It’s what they do AFTER their eyes have been opened.

Exodus Cry exists to light a fire in the hearts of people everywhere, igniting a burning desire to help end sex trafficking in our generation.

It’s a lofty goal, but we can accomplish it together.
