Dear neighbor,

I wanted to reach out and wish you a Happy Holidays. Even during uncertain times, this season can serve as a valuable opportunity to reflect on the things we’re grateful for. This year, I am grateful for my wonderful family, and also for the incredible opportunity to continue to represent my constituents in California’s 36th Congressional District.

As you may know, last week government funding almost ran out after House Republicans, following orders from billionaire Elon Musk, rejected a bipartisan funding deal that had been carefully negotiated and agreed upon by Republican and Democratic leaders in the House and Senate.

Without a new plan to fund the government, Speaker Mike Johnson listened to Elon Musk and withdrew the bill right before the funding deadline. This sent Congress into a tailspin as we tried to figure out how to keep the government funded and protect Americans from the harms of a shutdown.

Fortunately, House Democrats stepped in and prevented a government shutdown, which would have stopped pay to our troops, ruined holiday airport travel, and hurt families across the nation. Democrats were once again putting people over politics to ensure Republican dysfunction did not impact Americans this holiday season.

As 2024 comes to an end, I wanted to share some of the work I did on behalf of my constituents during this congressional term. This Congress, I authored or cosponsored a number of bills to help the American people. One of my bills signed into law requires that artificial intelligence never be used to launch a nuclear weapon without having a human in the loop. I also made sure to listen to and share my thoughts with constituents, having sent more than 319,000 responses to constituents in the past Congress.

In addition to my work in Washington, I also ensured my staff and I were supporting residents in my district who needed help with Federal agencies. My casework team resolved more than 3,200 casework issues that constituents had with the federal government. We were also able to recoup more than $11.7 million that federal agencies owed our constituents.

This is the kind of work that keeps me motivated. As I’ve said before, serving you is my life’s greatest honor. Thank you so much for allowing me the opportunity to represent you in Washington. I wish you and yours Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year.
