Screw New Year’s resolutions. I’m a New Yorker and I have grievances!
Hi, I’m New York State Senator Jessica Ramos, and it’s time for my annual Festivus airing of grievances. 🧵
- The rent is too damn high!
- All the corruption and indictments coming from City Hall are an embarrassment. We deserve better from our leaders.
- The Federal Government STILL hasn’t passed immigration reform since 2003! I complained about this last Festivus and it still is true. We need work permits, we need a path to citizenship. What are we doing here?
- The Governor vetoed three important bills of mine: worker’s compensation reform that makes it easier for patients to get their medication, child care support for New Yorkers earning less than the minimum wage, and a bill to protect state employees from bullying and harassment.
- The number of billionaires in New York went up again from 134 to 139 this year. We can’t have more millionaires if billionaires are hoarding all the money.
- All the bosses at Amazon, Starbucks, and REI are being real grinches, driving their workers out on strike by refusing to respect their labor.
- The long-promised pedestrian path on the Queensboro bridge is still MIA. Any day now…
- The Jackson Heights Post Office still doesn’t have a ramp.
- A second Trump presidency is around the corner, and I’m worried about my neighbors and the impact tariffs are going to have on our pocketbooks. Groceries are already too expensive.
- A revolving door of scandal-marred men still think they are entitled to hold public office. There are other jobs!
- The Mets came so close, and yet still broke our hearts.
- We fumbled our chance to elect the first daughter of immigrants as president. Let’s not fumble our chance to elect one as Mayor next year.
- Stop saying Citi Field is in Flushing. It’s in Corona!
Phew - glad to get that off my chest.
