Scientists around the country are in full-on panic at the thought of notorious conspiracy theorist and anti-vax fanatic Robert F Kennedy Jr. taking control of the Health and Human Services Department. “I thought [Kennedy] was unthinkable as HHS Sec,” writes global health legal specialist Lawrence Gostin. “He would control all our gold standard scientific agencies like FDA, CDC, and NIH. And politically poison them.”

His plans for the National Institutes of Health are some of the most terrifying of all. RFK Jr. has already been bragging about his plans to fire at least 600 people on day one of Trump’s second term — and we can be sure that funding cuts and more layoffs will be following as our public health infrastructure is dismantled piece by piece.

Tell Trump and RFK Jr. to keep their hands off the NIH!

The National Institutes of Health is the largest funder of biomedical research in the world and has been responsible for such crucial medical breakthroughs like using fluoride to treat tooth decay, creating the vaccines to prevent hepatitis and HPV…and paving the way for the mRNA technology used to create the COVID-19 vaccine.

But if Trump, RFK Jr. and their Project 2025 cronies get their way, we could be seeing huge cuts to the NIH and the shuttering of over a dozen institutes. This would be beyond devastating to the progress of medical science and leave us incredibly vulnerable the next time a pandemic breaks out.
