WARD 1 UPDATE
Hello Neighbors:
I am passionate about Ward 1 and could not be prouder to be your Ward 1 Councilmember. I will always advocate for our ward, our residents, and especially the most vulnerable of our neighbors.
With the two-year Council Period 25 coming to a close, I’m excited to share with you some of what we’ve accomplished. Watch your inbox next week for my 2024 Progress Report – a look back at how we worked to enhance road safety, build more affordable housing, expand violence prevention programs, and more.
The New York Times featured our fight to hold Empower accountable. There’s a reason that the completely unregulated ride-hailing company operating illegally in D.C. is so cheap: riders are not protected and may be putting themselves at risk. My investigation continues as we work to keep people safe, and the District Attorney General continues to pursue court action.
Last week, Councilmembers voted unanimously to recommend that the D.C. Council expel Councilmember Trayon White for violations of the D.C. Code and D.C. Council Rules, presenting a serious threat to the public trust. Serving on the Council is a privilege and a solemn responsibility, demanding the highest standards of personal and professional conduct. The full Council will hold a hearing in January and take a final vote shortly after. Read my full remarks.
As we prepare for 2025, I’m excited for the start of a new Council Period, full of new opportunities and challenges to make Ward 1 and the District even more vibrant, livable, and equitable.
