Friend, As we look ahead to 2025, it’s clear California is going to be ground zero in the fight against Trump 2.0. Yes, Democrats still control much of state politics. But Republican gains in the November elections show that we can’t take any voter for granted. And, from deporting immigrants in mass, to gutting MediCal, to stopping California rules to curb climate pollution, Trump’s hate agenda would have terrible and widespread consequences for working-class Californians.
We believe that California should be a beacon of progress. As the 5th largest economy in the world -- and the United States’ largest and most diverse state -- California is uniquely positioned to serve as a model for the country. Yet with swaths of the state trending red in the last election and Republican leaders feeling emboldened by an incoming Trump administration, we need to coalesce around progressive values that we know people care about. We need to show how Congress is attacking affordable housing, our clean water, our ability to plan our families, and more. And even with the vast majority of voters behind Courage’s vision for progressive, equitable California, lighting the way for other states, there’s still plenty Trump can do to engulf us in darkness. His mass deportation plan would devastate our economy and tear apart tens of thousands of families.(1) His threat to withhold wildfire relief funds unless we roll back clean water protections would put our safety in peril.(2) And his activation of a 19th century law would stop California from being an abortion safe haven and possibly ban the procedure here altogether. (3) The list goes on. We’ve taken on Trump and MAGA before and won. We stopped the Muslim ban and kids from being kept in cages. We saved the Affordable Care Act. Now we’re going to be the hub for progressive organizations throughout the state, uniting millions of voices to stop Congress from a MAGA takeover in our state.
