Macomb County provides many resources to help you get started, plus the Clerk's Office web site has some great information.
Also, please check out some "eye-popping" statistics on the number of court cases and court filings that were processed by our hard-working court clerks over the past four years. Also our friendly staff has answered (no voicemail) an impressive 97 percent of all phone calls, numbering almost 150,000 during a four-year period (nearly 40,000 this year alone!).

How to Register Your New Business
At the Macomb County Clerk's Office, residents can register (or renew) a business under an assumed name. This registration is also known as a "DBA" (Doing Business As). Applicants will file as a "Sole Proprietorship" (one owner) or a "Co-Partnership" (two or more owners). The fee is $10 to register a business name.
You must be at least 18 years of age to file a business registration. Business registrations are valid for five years.
Corporations and LLCs (Limited Liability Company) are formed through the State. You do not want to be registered with both the County and the State, because that would be two different legal structures with two different levels of liability. Choose one or the other, not both. If you have a partnership, it is strongly recommended that you have a written agreement no matter what your legal structure may be. Most importantly our staff does not offer legal advice; please seek out a qualified professional before making a decision.
The Macomb County Small Business & Technology Development Center (SBDC) provides assistance to new and existing business owners. Many of their services are free, including seminars and confidential one-on-one consulting with trained business counselors. These business counselors can help you with developing business plans, financing, marketing, or any other issues your business may be facing. Visit their website at sbdcmichigan.org/

Eye-Popping Court Department Stats
The Clerk's Office takes tremendous pride in our hard-working Court Department and Jury Room clerks. In the above statistical chart, you will get a good idea of the number of court case and court document filings that are dealt with on an every-day basis. Over the last four years, our clerks processed over 1 million Circuit Court e-filings, with over 60,000 new court cases opened!
Also, we take great pride on how our clerks answer a stunning 97 percent of all phone calls during regular business hours. Our court staff has handled almost 150,000 calls over a four-year period, with almost 40,000 this year alone!
And our friendly Jury Room staff has kept over 150,000 jurors comfortable in our new and modern Jury Room.
