  *Gov. Reynolds sets date for Iowa Senate District 35 special election* DES MOINES—Gov. Reynolds issued a proclamation today setting Tuesday, January 28, 2025, as the date for a special election in Iowa Senate District 35 following the resignation of former Senator Chris Cournoyer.  Iowa Code section 69.14 outlines the authority given to the governor to set a special election. Cournoyer was serving her second term in the Iowa Senate before Gov. Reynolds appointed her lieutenant governor on December 16, 2024. Senate District 35 is located in Clinton County, as well as parts of Jackson and Scott Counties, and includes Clinton, DeWitt, Camanche, Wheatland, Maquoketa, and Princeton. The proclamation setting the date of the special election [ [link removed] ] can be found online and reads as follows: 

*SPECIAL ELECTION PROCLAMATION * *WHEREAS*, the Office of State Senator for the Thirty-Fifth (35th) State Senate District of the Iowa General Assembly, as defined by section 41.2(35) of the 2024 Iowa Code has become vacant by reason of resignation of Iowa State Senator Chris Cournoyer, effective December 16, 2024. *NOW, THEREFORE, I, KIMBERLY K. REYNOLDS*, Governor of the State of Iowa, by the power and authority vested in me by law, do hereby proclaim and direct that a special election to fill said vacancy shall be held within said District on: *TUESDAY, THE TWENTY EIGHTH (28TH) DAY OF JANUARY, 2025 A.D.* *WHEREFORE*, all electors within the Thirty-Fifth (35th) State Senate District will take due notice and the County Commissioner of Elections in Clinton, Jackson, and Scott shall give official notice as provided in section 39.6 of the Iowa Code.    # # #
