John,
Donald Trump has nominated former congressman Billy Long to lead the IRS, years before Biden’s IRS Commissioner’s term will expire.
Over the past decade Mr. Long has attempted to bully the IRS into investigating and removing the tax-exempt status of organizations he is opposed to.1,2
As a member of Congress, Long sponsored legislation that would have abolished the IRS and replaced it with a 30% national sales tax―raising the taxes of low-income and working people, and cutting the taxes of millionaires, billionaires, and corporations.3
That’s not all―in addition, Mr. Long cashed in his Congressional connections to enrich himself through a provision known as a “magnet for fraud.” He encouraged businesses to file for the pandemic-era Employee Retention Tax Credit in exchange for part of the refund received by the business.4
Mr. Long’s background should be disqualifying for the position of IRS Commissioner. Send a direct message to the Senate and tell them to oppose Billy Long’s nomination.

Since being sworn in as IRS Commissioner last year, President Biden’s Commissioner, Danny Werfel, has collected more than $1 billion in unpaid taxes from wealthy tax cheats.5 He’s implemented a free online way for everyday people to file their taxes online without the need for paid services like H&R Block and TurboTax.6 And, Werfel has rebuilt customer service at the IRS, getting rid of a backlog of tens of millions of tax returns7 and lowering the call wait time at the IRS from 28 minutes to just 3.8
Since Trump’s nominee doesn’t seemingly believe in the IRS, he would most likely work to undo all of that progress, opening the door for rampant tax evasion by millionaires, billionaires, and large profitable corporations.
Send a message to the Senate urging them to oppose Billy Long’s nomination as IRS Commissioner.
