Dear Friend,

In a year of change and challenges, we have accomplished a lot together in 2024.

As Republicans will take power in the new year alongside an anti-environment administration, it is important to remind ourselves of and reflect on the work we have accomplished together in our fight for a better environment.

Let’s take a look at what our community made possible this year [link removed]

Your advocacy has helped us achieve important wins for the environment. Let’s take a look at what you, as Earthjustice advocates, have helped us achieve.

In the fight for removing toxic and dangerous products from our daily lives, here’s what we were able to achieve with your support:
• Banning trichlorethylene: We sued the EPA over the continued use of trichlorethylene, the cancer-causing chemical, and 49,801 of you submitted comments in support of this ban. This chemical was banned earlier this month, a historic victory that sets an important precedent for how the government can use its authority to save millions of lives and defy polluting industries.
• Phasing out lead pipes: After years of Earthjustice litigation, joint advocacy alongside communities affected by lead contamination, and over 68,000 comments from Earthjustice advocates, the EPA updated an existing rule to require almost all lead pipes in the United States to be replaced within a decade.
• Adopting first-ever national PFAS in drinking water standards: This year, the EPA finalized national PFAS drinking water standards to reduce people’s exposure to serious health risks and prevent thousands of premature deaths. Over 46,000 comments were submitted in support of these standards.

In the fight to secure clean drinking water and clean air as a right for all, here’s what we were able to achieve with your support:
• Cleaning up toxic coal ash: In April of this year, the EPA finalized a new rule that will force power plants across the country to clean up hundreds of coal ash dumps that have been leaking toxic pollution into groundwater. This is a major victory for communities living near coal ash plants as the rule closes a loophole that left over half of coal ash exempt from federal clean-up requirements. Over 48,000 comments were submitted, urging these power plants to clean up their mess.
• Strengthening regulations for soot: Over 49,0000 comments were submitted urging the EPA to strengthen regulations for particulate matter air pollution, commonly known as soot. This final rule will reduce the harms of deadly air pollution for communities across the country.

In the fight to safeguard our public lands and waters, here’s what we were able to achieve with your support:
• Ending coal leasing in the Powder River Basin: In May of this year, the Biden administration announced the end of coal-leasing in the Powder River Basin, which is the largest coal-producing region in the United States. This decision is a direct result of Earthjustice litigation that resulted in a federal judge forcing the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to redo its environmental analysis for coal mining plans in Powder River Basin. Over 29,000 comments were submitted in support of ending coal leasing in this region.
• Protecting public lands in Alaska from development: The Department of the Interior agreed with the Bureau of Land Management’s recommendations to protect 28 million acres of public lands in Alaska from extractive development and over 20,000 comments were submitted in support of their recommendations.

All of these important victories happened in part due to the legal expertise of Earthjustice attorneys and the commitment of your advocacy. Take some time to see what we’ve accomplished together in 2024. [link removed]
