Dear John,
South Sudan declared independence in 2011 and became the world’s youngest country, but the East African nation continues to face challenges.
Notably, upwards of 80% of rural women are unaware that their constitution guarantees property rights.
Fortunately, one Atlas Network partner is working hard to correct this misconception and advocate for personal freedom.
John Mustapha leads the Organization for Liberty and Entrepreneurship (OLENT), an Atlas Network partner based in the city of Yambio.
OLENT has been making life-changing progress, notably by advocating for property and inheritance rights for women.
In one case, a woman named Mary tragically lost her husband, and relatives forced Mary and her children to leave their home before stealing the property.
OLENT encouraged Mary to defend her rights in court and win it back.
We recently released the first part of a new documentary series about OLENT, which introduces Mary and shares how John and his organization helped her fight for her property rights.
