“All these people [the squad] have their public whatever and their Twitter
world...But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s
how many votes they got.”
- Nancy Pelosi on Alexandria, Rashida, Ilhan, and Ayanna

John --

Every member of the squad is currently co-sponsoring major legislation.
Alexandria introduced the Green New Deal, Ilhan introduced a bill to
eliminate all student debt, Rashida introduced a resolution to impeach
Trump, and Ayanna spearheaded a bill to provide back pay for all
contractors during the longest government shutdown in history.

Despite this reality, there has been a concerted effort by forces in
Washington to denigrate, demean, and diminish the accomplishments of these
four women of color who are on the front-lines of the progressive fight.
And it’s not just Republicans leading that fight — moderate Democrats, and
Nancy Pelosi are pushing it too.

In a recent interview, Pelosi directly attacked the incredible grassroots
movement that the squad — and Justice Democrats — has helped create. All
because they dared to stand up for their principles, and refused to vote
for a bill that handed another 4 billion dollars to Trump with no
additional provisions to keep children and families safe at the border.

in Congress, because we’re not just up against the Republicans, but
Democrats who refuse to lead in this moment of crisis. Will you donate

This brazen display of hypocrisy just shows how many moderate and
corporate Democrats operate with little to no urgency for the crisis at
hand. Whenever progressives critique the party — like how it’s stood by as
children die in detention centers and families are separated — we’re
attacked as “eating our own.”

We tried Pelosi’s strategy. We’ve been fighting for health care and
climate change and compromising on the issue for 30 years — and still,
millions of Americans have virtually no access to basic care without
massive costs. Meanwhile, moderates in Congress are attacking four
progressive women of color who are willing to stand up to this crisis,
instead of taking real action to hold Trump accountable for impeachable
crimes.

Here’s the reality: this is a war for the soul of the Democratic Party,
and it’s between a faction that will fight to free children from detention
centers, and a faction that only cares about the “best deal” they think
they can get. But they’re not willing to put up a fight for it.

transformed the debate. Help us elect real champions who will stand up for
progressive values, not cowardice:

If we’re going to defeat Trump in 2020, it’s not going to come from
middle-of-the-road centrism, compromising with the cruelty of Trumpand
corporate donors. It’s going to come from an authentic, inspiring vision
of economic, social, racial, and environmental justice for all.

Our squad is the future of the Democratic Party — no matter what Pelosi’s
circular firing squad tries to do about it.

In solidarity
