This is the human story behind the numbers – and why we need climate action now
What's behind a number, John? When we talk about climate, phrases like ‘net zero’ and ‘keeping warming to 1.5ºC’ often come up. But those numbers don’t tell the full story.
Think about your home. Your loved ones. Everyone you’ve ever known, and everything you cherish. Now imagine it gone, in a matter of hours.
That might sound scary. But it’s the reality for millions of people across the world right now, who face the devastating impacts of the climate crisis. Burning fossil fuels is driving more frequent and fatal extreme weather like droughts, floods and wildfires. Communities are being destroyed while those responsible – Big Oil corporations – rake in profits.
We can’t sit silently while our shared home goes up in flames. We must take action. But we need your help. Will you sign up as a Greenpeace supporter today and help fund our vital campaigns?

2024 is set to be the hottest year on record – and could be the first year to breach the 1.5ºC global warming limit established in the Paris Agreement [1]. We’re on course for climate breakdown. And if we don’t act now, lives will be lost.
But as big as the problems might feel, a better future is possible. We can move away from dirty oil to clean energy, and create more good green jobs in the renewables sector. And we can tax the oil companies fuelling climate destruction at home and around the world. They created this mess – it’s only right that they pay to clean it up.
We’ve got the solutions. Now it’s time to make them a reality. But we can only do that with your help.
John, people like you make our work possible. Will you become a Greenpeace supporter today and help fund our vital campaigns? Your money will help us expose climate crimes, lobby politicians and push for a greener, fairer world.
