These are five stories that made an impact in the march for justice.

Friend,

2024 was a difficult year — and a stark reminder of why the SPLC’s work is more essential than ever. Throughout the year, we were able to shine a light on the challenges we face — and the resilience of those impacted by inequality and extremism.

We’ve rounded up just a few of those stories below that underscore the gravity of our work. Each feature tells the story of an individual impacted by some of the country’s most draconian laws or reveals the severity of an ever-growing extremist, white nationalist movement. Thank you for being part of our journey as we look on to continuing the fight for justice in 2025.

Here are five stories that defined our year:

SPLC, local journalist expose, derail plan for neo-Nazi enclave in Maine

Teacher fights Florida anti-LGBTQ+ law, says ‘state can’t deny my existence’

Children face hunger across Deep South after states refuse summer food aid

Back on the job: Alabama town’s first Black mayor reinstated, sworn into office

Georgia residents displaced from affordable housing denied decent places to live

The SPLC is a catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond, working in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance the human rights of all people.

Friend, will you make a special gift to our year-end campaign? Every gift will be matched dollar for dollar up to $1 million through December 31.
