John,
When a new Congress is sworn in on January 3rd, majorities in the House and Senate will be seeking to cut funding for Medicaid and other critical programs relied upon by millions of Americans.
We will defend against cuts. By showing that people nationwide demand affordable health care, food, and housing, we will build the case for expanding Medicaid, nutrition, and housing programs. We will work with our champions in Congress to protect and defend the rights of vulnerable communities.
“Over the last four decades, the Coalition on Human Needs has fought for our children, hardworking families, immigrants, and people who need affordable health care, housing, childcare, and food and job-related services. I am so proud to be your ally in these fights, and look forward to continuing our partnership for years to come.” - Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) [1]
There’s a lot of work ahead. Now is the time to dig in our heels and not lose hope.

John,
Congress has adjourned for 2024 and when they return in the New Year, we’ll have our work cut out for us.
Even before the new presidential administration, beginning January 20th, there will be attempted action in the new Congress to “fast track” mass deportations and more border wall construction. Soon after, the Trump administration and his allies in Congress will seek to renew the expiring tax cuts and expand breaks for the rich and corporations―and pay for it by cutting critical programs such as Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, and anti-hunger programs. And while Trump has said he won’t cut Medicare and Social Security, that could be just another lie.
The Coalition on Human Needs is critical in our shared struggle to ensure no one is left behind. And we’ll be working with our champions in Congress in this fight to not just maintain the status quo, but continue to demand increases in funding for human needs.
This year, Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) read a statement into the Congressional Record, highlighting “…the Coalition on Human Needs’ strong efforts to lift up the needs of the poor, people of color, immigrants, children, the aging, and people with disabilities in Federal budget and tax decision-making.”1
Our work, together, is critical to achieving economic fairness and stability to millions of vulnerable people. Donate today so we can meet the moment in 2025 and beyond.

The Coalition on Human Needs plays a critical role in fighting back against reckless cuts in programs and services, which the right-wing want to use to pay for more tax cuts for the rich. But we’re doing more than defending against cuts. We’re demanding critical investments in human needs programs so that no one is left behind.
Power our grassroots advocacy and lobbying on Capitol Hill that bring critical investments into vulnerable communities. Donate $5 today.
