[link removed] [[link removed]] John,
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, played a major role in the 2024 presidential election. How much?
Elon Musk spent a total of $238 million to elect Donald Trump.
Now, he's been given a role co-leading the so-called "Department of Government Efficiency” with another billionaire – and they’re not the only billionaire Trump picks .
Donald Trump’s Cabinet and advisory team is on track to be the richest in modern history. He’s chosen nearly a dozen billionaires to serve in top government and advisory positions. Here are just a few:
* Trump tapped tech investor and venture capitalist David Sacks to serve as his artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency czar. Sacks made his fortune in part through the $1.2 billion sale of the software company Yammer to Microsoft.
* Trump’s pick for Secretary of Education is Linda McMahon, who founded World Wrestling Entertainment with her husband. Together, they share a net worth of $3 billion.
* Howard Lutnick is Trump’s pick for Secretary of Commerce. He’s a businessman who is the chairman and CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, a Wall Street financial services firm that was just charged with breaking securities law, and he has a net worth of at least $2.2 billion.
* Scott Bessent, founder of hedge fund Key Square Capital Management, is Trump’s pick to lead the Treasury Department. While Bessent has been widely reported to be a billionaire, his exact amount of wealth is unknown.
He’s also named appointees who are also hundred-millionaires like Dr. Mehmet Oz and Fiserv CEO Frank Bisignano.
John, the total net worth of the billionaires in Trump’s proposed leadership team, as of December 10th, is at least $382.2 billion.
Frankly, that's an ethics nightmare.
It's hard to see how a leadership team made up largely of the very, very wealthiest of Americans is going to understand the needs of regular people. And it’s hard to see how the nominees are going to resolve their potential conflicts of interest—especially under the leadership of Donald Trump, who signaled total disregard for ethics laws during his first administration and who has made even fewer commitments to addressing conflicts of interest this time around.
