You may not know this about me, but 22 years ago, I found myself at Planned Parenthood.

My wife Tricia and I were engaged to be married when we discovered we were pregnant. We were scared. Before we really took the time to consider it, we walked through the doors of Planned Parenthood and aborted our first child.

All these years later, what sticks with me the most is how it affected Tricia.

Every woman wants to feel loved, cherished, and worth fighting for. Deep down, she longs to know that the man in her life will stand in the gap for her. For the next 17 years, I was blind to the immense weight Tricia carried after walking out of Planned Parenthood.

No one in my life talked about abortion. Nobody brought it up at church, none of my friends had conversations about it, and my wife and I didn’t even talk about it. It felt like an unforgivable sin. The shame that I carried about our decision all those years ago was too much to bear, and that was doubly true for Tricia.

But, through God’s grace and ongoing Christian counseling, we’ve been able to find forgiveness for our decision to seek an abortion all those years ago. And yet that pain really never goes away.
