Friend,

I don't remember much about my life before the chains. I was only a few months old, but I do remember the day my life changed.

Instead of waking up in the lush forest trees with my family, I woke up in a cage with cold metal bars.

When they took me out of the cage, my arms were tied behind my back, and a chain was hung around my neck, forcing me to stand up straight like a human. If I tried to sit or climb, I would choke.

They pulled out my teeth so that I couldn't bite anyone. My handler violently pulled on my chain when I didn't understand what to do, and they starved me until I did what they wanted.

They forced me to perform--stand on my back legs, ride a bicycle, and dance. The crowds would laugh. They thought I was happy. But the pain never stopped, and neither did the fear. This was my life for years.

But with the help of generous supporters like you, World Animal Protection was able to provide critical support to Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN) to rescue me and 30 other dancing monkeys.

I’m one of the lucky ones. But there are still countless animals just like me around the world that are trapped and relentlessly exploited.
