Dear Friend, Late last night, the Senate passed a bipartisan government funding bill that includes more than $100 billion in disaster relief for states and communities hit by natural disasters, including North Carolina during Hurricane Helene.
“Western North Carolina will need significant resources to be made whole again, and I'm proud to have worked alongside my colleagues in both parties to secure this critical funding,” Senator Tillis said. “Now, the long-term rebuilding process can begin.”
For months, Senator Tillis has worked with congressional leaders and appropriators to deliver on the $100 billion appropriation. He also successfully secured a number of key provisions in the legislation, including mandates to deliver federal assistance to Western North Carolina sooner.
On top of that, it’s been a busy month for Team Tillis both on Capitol Hill and in North Carolina. Senator Tillis has been working hard to prepare for the opportunities ahead and support our communities, but there’s no slowing down as we prepare for 2025.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Legislative Highlights: Supporting the Military |
This week, the Senate voted overwhelmingly to pass the National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA. It will now go to the White House, where President Biden is expected to sign it into law.
Thom proudly voted in favor of this bill, which will provide more than $290 million for investments in North Carolina military installations and a pay raise for our servicemembers and their families. This funding will also assist in rebuilding our nation’s weapon arsenal.
This NDAA is a win for North Carolina and our military. |
On the Horizon: Trump Team Confirmations |
Americans sent a clear message last month by re-electing Donald J. Trump, and he has wasted no time in nominating his team. We need to give these nominations a fair hearing and get them quickly confirmed once Republicans retake the Senate majority in January. But as Thom mentioned in a recent interview on Fox News Sunday, Democrats have made it clear in past confirmation hearings that nothing is off-limits. Nonetheless, Thom’s main focus remains on getting President Trump’s nominees through all four committees he serves on, which includes making sure Pam Bondi is our next Attorney General and Kash Patel is our next FBI Director. Now, the Senate needs to be willing to put in the hours (including weekends) to get President Trump’s team confirmed as quickly as possible. → Read more: Tillis backs Bondi for AG, Patel for FBI (Breitbart) → Watch here: GOP senator says every Trump nominee needs 'to be prepared’ to answer ‘unfair questions’ ahead of Senate confirmations (Fox News) |
North Carolina News: Recovering from Hurricane Helene
|
It’s going to take years for Western North Carolina to recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene. Senators Tillis and Budd are in it for the long haul, as they made clear in a new piece for The Carolina Journal. We need to remain fully committed to ensuring long-term recovery assistance moves through Congress quickly. The people of Western North Carolina have spent their entire lives working hard, paying taxes, and never asking for anything from the federal government. Now it is time for their government to return the favor and help them in their time of greatest need. → Read more: The road ahead for western North Carolina (The Carolina Journal) |
