No one should call the last-minute stop-gap government funding bill Congress just passed a “victory” — certainly no conservative.
Continuing resolutions only kick America’s fiscal can down the road. They preclude real reforms. They reward politicians’ worst habits.
But the short-term spending bill was a lot better than the original 1,500-page, Deep-State funding monstrosity Republican and Democrat leaders tried to sneak past the American people earlier in the week.
And conservatives should take heart in how we took it down.
Within hours of the bill’s release, conservative activists and lawmakers communicated directly with President Donald Trump and his inner circle. Social media, in particular, became a tool of transparency against Swamp secrecy.
Leaders like Senators Mike Lee and Rick Scott, DOGE boss Elon Musk, and others were able to expose the waste, fraud, and abuse in the original “deal.” They made their case directly to the public and to President Trump, who drove the stake through its heart.
Washington Democrats say this is a dangerous “outside” influence on policymaking. But, dare we ask, outside what? Outside Washington? Outside congressional leadership? Outside the uniparty Establishment that has been wrecking our culture and economy for years?
The insiders had their chance. They failed. It’s long past time the outsiders took control. That is what the American people just voted for, after all!
The most important lesson conservatives should take from this week’s budget fight is this: there are no more backrooms. The days of Mitch McConnell or John Boehner going behind closed doors, selling out the country, and ramming their Democrat-lite bills through Congress are over.
A new generation of Republican leaders must serve this new generation of conservatives — populist, skeptical of elites, America First, and armed with the tools needed to fight back against Establishment treachery.
Washington insiders are warning that the supposed “chaos” of this week’s budget fight will be a preview of the next four years. Except, it’s not chaos — it’s democracy. And they are right to be worried!
This week’s fight wasn’t a clear win for the Right, but it was a huge loss for the Establishment. And it showed us all how we can beat them again in the new year.
