Brazos Bend State Park

The end of the year is quickly approaching. As we look forward to the new year, plan to start 2025 off on the right (and left) foot with a hike, stroll, dog walk, bike ride or winter water plunge in your favorite state park.

Whether exercising your body, relaxing your mind or enjoying some social time with friends and family, your parks offer outdoor fun for everyone!

You can make reservations for most state parks up to 5 months in advance for overnight visits and up to 30 days in advance for day passes.

Government Canyon

New Year's Resolutions First Day Hike at Lake Somerville State Park - Birch Creek Unit. Join us on January 1 as we combine the power of resolutions with the serenity of nature!

First Day Hike - 1 Mile Loop at Buescher State Park. Start 2025 off on the right foot by strapping on your hiking boots and going on a guided First Day Hike in Buescher State Park!

Inks First Day Events! at Inks Lake State Park. Join us for several events spanning New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

First Day Hike: Family-Friendly Morning Hike at Government Canyon State Natural Area. Start the new year with a leisurely hike at Government Canyon State Natural Area with the Friends of Government Canyon.

Cleburne SP

2025 First Day Hike at Fort Boggy State Park. Start your year outside with a leisurely hike down the newly opened Tunnel Trail.

Tri-Park-A-Thon at Ray Roberts Lake State Park. Join rangers at Ray Roberts for our 2nd annual hike across all 3 units.

First Day Reflections of 2024 and Nature Hike at Lake Whitney State Park. Join us for the First Day Hike tradition when adventurers of all ages and skill levels come together to explore the great outdoors. This hike will focus on reflections and gratitude for nature as we kick off the New Year.

First Day Hikes and Possum Plunge at Possum Kingdom State Park. Ring in the new year with a guided hike to the summit of Longhorn Trail. Then cool off with the Possum Plunge. This refreshing dip into the cold waters of Possum Kingdom Lake is sure to sharpen the senses for 2025! Then, finish off the day with a final hike up the Chapparal Trail.

First Day Self-guided Hike, Bike and/or Ride at Cooper Lake State Park - South Sulphur Unit. Join us on New Year's Day to celebrate wellness in nature! After you complete your hike and/or ride, stop by park headquarters from 8:15 a.m.–4:30 p.m. to get your First Day Hike sticker (while supplies last)!
