Third time's a charm — Congress finally passes short-term funding package to keep the federal government open
38 minutes after midnight — and after funding for the federal government technically ran out — the Senate passed a new short-term funding package that cleared the House with critical Democratic support, averting a catastrophic government shutdown that Elon Musk and Donald Trump nearly brought to fruition when they set an earlier bipartisan agreement on figurative fire. The unexpected meddling from the world's richest ketamine enthusiast and the president-elect he bankrolled back into power badly weakened House Speaker Mike Johnson and exposed huge rifts in the Republican Party that won't be mended anytime soon. The bill, which President Biden was set to sign immediately, saw Democrats make grown-up concessions to avert a holiday-busting shutdown but did NOT include Trump's earlier, reckless demand that the US debt ceiling be done away with completely.
Take Action: Tell the Senate: Don't let Trump bypass Cabinet confirmation hearings!

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Elon Musk’s gamble blows up in his face
If the goal was for "President Musk" to have a smooth transition into his administration, it has spectacularly failed. The government funding fiasco that unfolded over the last few days in Washington, DC, has been nothing short of jaw-dropping. An earlier bipartisan agreement to keep the federal government open was tanked when Musk — and then Trump — pitched public fits over its not-unreasonable contents. Republicans then plopped a dead-on-arrival plan B on the table that, among other cuts, actually REMOVED $190 MILLION for childhood cancer research. You read that right. Defunding pediatric cancer research — it's enough to make Emperor Palpatine blush.

House Republican dismisses Trump calling for his ouster: "Rick Perry called President Trump a cancer and ended up in his Cabinet"
We're still a month away from Donald Trump taking the reins and the Republican Party's wagon is just careening from one ditch to the next. Stock up on the popcorn, friends. There's going to be so much more of this in our very near future.
Take Action: Tell President Biden to use his pardon power for justice before he leaves office!
Trump campaign adviser calls incoming UK ambassador to US a "moron"
With the likes of — checks notes — Kimberly Guilfoyle and Herschel frickin' Walker tapped to join Trump's team of esteemed ambassadors, we're not sure we're in any position to be calling any other nation's diplomats names of any kind.

Major Trump donors who complained of immigrant "invasion" used Mexican workers illegally, sources allege
Of COURSE they did.
Trump campaign team says Joe Biden saved them from fallout after racist MSG rally
They aren't exactly wrong on this one. President Biden handed Trump more than a few gifts leading up to the MAGA cult leader's re-election, and bailing Donald out following Garbagegate with a literal trash-talk blunder of his own just a few days after the shockingly racist Madison Square Garden pep rally was simply the last in a string of unfortunate incidents that certainly did Democrats no favors in November.

American abortion patients put in extreme danger by Trump and his cronies
National Network of Abortion Funds: Abortion rights are under attack by right-wing extremists across the country, and it's about to get a hundred times worse under President Trump and Republican control of the government. That's why Dose of Democracy is working overtime to help raise money for the National Network of Abortion Funds and make sure they have the resources they need to provide care to as many patients as possible before it's too late. Will you make a donation to help those on the front lines of the war for reproductive rights?
