Solstice invites us to turn inward and enter the depths of the self. It marks the longest night and the darkest night - a perfect opportunity to explore shadow work. 🌌
At its core, Shadow Work involves exploring those parts of ourselves that exist beyond our awareness but are very much at play. They are often the lost or repressed parts of ourselves due to personal trauma or cultural conditioning or shame. But the shadow also plays out at a collective level - revealing the many wounds we have neglected to confront and heal that are manifesting themselves through war, oppression, erasure and exploitation.
Exploring the shadow is tender and difficult work because it exposes the lies we have been told, the lies we bought into and the lies we remain attached to. Here’s what Laura Matsue says about why unlearning is so messy:
“The reason why it’s so hard to wake people up to topics they’ve been lied to about is because they will have to see how one lie is merely a thread that leads to a whole web of lies. You have to be ready to dismantle many of the things you have been told about reality to untangle yourself from this web. Most people cannot psychologically handle this level of disillusionment.”
Let the shadow take center stage this solstice. Create the conditions for deep listening by slowing down, getting what you need and letting the darkness in. We cannot heal what we do not face. Let this solstice begin a portal for radical reflection and deep healing that takes you into the new year with focus and endurance.
