DECEMBER 20th, 2024

Dear Fourth District Constituent,

Happy Holidays
With both Hanukkah and Christmas just around the corner, I'm sending my best wishes to you and your family for a warm and joyful holiday. May this season bring you and your family the opportunity to relax, spend time with one another, and reflect on our many blessings.

While we head into this busy holiday season, it is important to be prepared when traveling these next two weeks. TSA lines will get backed up, and unpredictable weather can lead to long traffic delays. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to get to the airport, or even just across town!

Update From Washington

In breaking news from Washington tonight, I voted yes for a short-term government funding measure that will keep the government open through March 14th.  The House passed the bill in an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 366-34 (1 voted present).

Today is a good day for the American people.  This was also a vote to reject a dishonest stunt by billionaire Elon Musk and his most fanatic follower, President-elect Trump, to raise the debt limit to create room for massive tax giveaways to the wealthy.

However, it is with great sadness that Republicans walked away from an earlier bipartisan, bicameral agreement, and removed key provisions from that legislation, including support research for treatment and cures for childhood cancer, protections for Americans’ online privacy, a ban on junk fees, and a provision that would have reduced the cost of prescription drugs.

The American people do not deserve to suffer the consequences of Republican irresponsibility, and I voted to keep the government open and working for all Americans.

House Republicans had months to get their work done on time, and we only reached this point due to their irresponsible and reckless approach to governing. I’m glad that the government will remain open, but this frenzied week foreshadows the erratic, chaotic, unreliable four years that lay ahead of us with Donald Trump’s presidency.

At 12:30 pm on Monday I will host a virtual update on Facebook and Instagram to discuss what happened and update my constituents on what is next.

MNsure Open Enrollment
MNsure is Minnesota's health insurance marketplace. Open enrollment for MNsure is currently underway, and will run through January 15th, 2025. This is the annual opportunity for Minnesotans to compare options, change plans, or sign up for coverage.

Thanks to Congressional Democrats and the Biden-Harris Administration, Minnesotans who have coverage through MNsure can continue to save money on health insurance next year. Minnesotans who receive tax credits through MNsure will save an average of $6,700 on health insurance premiums next year because of enhanced federal subsidies that were part of the Inflation Reduction Act. Visit mnsure.org for more info, to compare plans, and get covered.

As always, please stay in touch: Voice your policy opinion, ask for help with a federal agency, or find all of my recent statements at mccollum.house.gov.

Sincerely,
