In case you need a refresher, here’s what happened:

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court ruled that sitting presidents can’t be prosecuted for criminal acts committed within their official duties. This ruling essentially grants the president an alarming level of immunity, allowing them to use executive power without fear of prosecution.

This decision set a precedent that could allow any president to act outside the law without consequence. That’s why Democratic leaders are rallying around the No Kings Act: to put an end to this extreme presidential immunity.

The No Kings Act would:

End Presidential Immunity for Crimes Committed in Office: No president, Trump included, would be able to claim immunity from prosecution for breaking federal criminal law. The Act would reaffirm the basic principle that no one is above the law.

Restore Congressional Authority: Congress, not the Supreme Court, should define limits on executive power. The No Kings Act would ensure that Congress can check presidential power by keeping criminal laws fully enforceable.

Prevent Future Supreme Court Overreach: The Act would prevent the Supreme Court from blocking presidential accountability by limiting its jurisdiction over cases on executive immunity.
