Neighbors,

As we approach the holiday season, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the final week of our legislative calendar. This week, we held our final legislative meeting of the year, and my Committee on Business & Economic Development wrapped up its last hearing for 2024. It's been a productive year, and I’m proud of all that we've accomplished together.

With the holiday season just around the corner, it's a time to cherish the spirit of giving, embrace the joy of being with family and loved ones, and remember to stay safe as we celebrate the holidays. Whether you're celebrating with close family or extending kindness to your neighbors, this is a special season to reflect on the positive impact we can have on each other's lives.

I’m grateful for your continued support, and I look forward to what we will achieve together in the coming year.

Wishing you all a warm and joyful holiday season!

In service,
Kenyan

The Politics Hour with Kojo Nnamdi & WAMU 88.5

Today, I joined Kojo Nnamdi and the team at WAMU 88.5 for their weekly segment, The Politics Hour. This Friday's broadcast was a great opportunity to dive deep into the latest political and policy discussions in the DMV area, and it was an honor to share my thoughts.

During our conversation, I discussed the exciting possibility of bringing the Washington Commanders back to the District of Columbia, where they truly belong. This would not only be a major win for our city's sports culture but also a game-changing opportunity for economic development. The return of the team could help revitalize parts of our city, create new jobs, and generate opportunities across multiple sectors, including hospitality, retail, housing, and transportation.

I also touched on the topic of DC Home Rule, sharing my perspective on the importance of empowering our residents and addressing the concerns of some in the community. Finally, I took a moment to reflect on the incredible impact Councilmember Vincent Gray has had on me personally and on the city as a whole. His leadership and dedication continue to inspire me every day.
Celebrating the Impact of Councilmember Vincent Gray

On Tuesday, December 17th, my colleagues and I on the D.C. Council had the distinct honor of recognizing a true leader, Councilmember and Former Mayor Vincent Gray, for his decades of dedicated service to our great city. Councilmember Gray has set the gold standard for leadership, demonstrating unwavering commitment to Washington, D.C. throughout his career.

Not only has he served as a passionate public servant, but he has also been a caring neighbor and an integral part of our community. His approach to leadership is grounded in respect and dignity for everyone, always prioritizing the needs of our residents and the well-being of our city.

Councilmember Gray’s legacy of service, dedication, and compassion continues to inspire us all. Thank you, Councilmember Gray, for your tireless work and unwavering commitment to making Washington, D.C. a better place for everyone!
The Sixteenth Meeting of the District of Columbia Electoral College

** Electoral College Votes Cast in D.C.
------------------------------------------------------------

On Tuesday, December 17th, the Electoral College convened at the John A. Wilson Building to cast their votes for the next President and Vice President of the United States. While this process is largely ceremonial, it is an essential step leading up to the presidential inauguration on January 20.

In Washington, D.C., the city’s electors gathered to cast their votes, representing the voices of over 700,000 residents of the District. The event highlighted D.C.'s important role in the democratic process, with Darryl Wiggins, Russ Breckenridge, Addison Rose, Kimberly Bassett, Mayor Bowser, and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton among the notable figures who participated in this significant occasion.
"Where Monuments Meet Momentum" Event: Capital One Arena Revitalization

On Thursday, December 19th, I attended "Where Monuments Meet Momentum", an exciting event hosted by Monumental Sports & Entertainment. This special gathering in the Grand Pavilion unveiled new exterior designs and interior renderings for the much-anticipated Capital One Arena renovation.

Attendees celebrated the official launch of construction with a ceremonial hammer swing, marking a key milestone in the project. The event followed the D.C. Council's unanimous approval of the development and finance agreements, which were signed by Mayor Bowser earlier that week.

The renovation will unfold in six phases over the next three years, with the Capital One Arena expected to be fully completed in time for the 2027-28 NBA and NHL seasons. This project promises to enhance the fan experience and solidify the arena as a cornerstone of our city's sports and entertainment landscape.
Medical Ascension Youth Health Fair

On Saturday, December 14, Team McDuffie had the honor of attending the Fall 2024 Medical Ascension Awards Ceremony at the University of the District of Columbia Congress Heights Campus. We were proud to table at the event, where we had the opportunity to share resources and connect with attendees.

The ceremony celebrated the remarkable achievements of 36 Medical Ascension Youth, including young individuals as young as 14 years old from across the District. These youth demonstrated leadership and dedication by running health fair stations, leading group discussions, and presenting on critical health topics like drug use and prevention, heart disease, and diabetes. They also performed vital health checks on residents, showcasing their growing expertise.

The event featured professionals from Sibley Hospital, NIH, DBH, Howard University Medical Students, and other experts who coached and trained the youth. All of the students received certifications, were white-coated, and were given health kits from Sibley in recognition of their hard work and commitment to the health field. Over 175 attendees gathered to celebrate their accomplishments and encourage their future success in healthcare. It was an inspiring and impactful event, and Team McDuffie was thrilled to be part of it.

Additionally, we would like to congratulate CompuRecycling on their new partnership with the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR). This exciting collaboration will surely have a positive impact on the community, and we look forward to seeing how it unfolds.
