Statement from Republican Party of San Diego County Chairwoman Paula Whitsell

“Today’s announcement that Supervisor Nora Vargas will not take the oath of office for her second term is yet another example of the chaos and dysfunction that the Democratic Party has brought to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. This follows last year’s disgraceful resignation of Supervisor Nathan Fletcher, who abandoned his office in the wake of scandals tied to his disgraceful conduct.

Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer has also contributed to the dysfunction, with a well-documented pattern of failing to show up for work and neglecting her responsibilities to the people of San Diego County. Now, with Nora Vargas abruptly exiting her position, the Democratic Party’s inability to provide stable and accountable leadership is more apparent than ever.

The residents of San Diego County deserve better than no-shows, scandals, and chaos. Republicans stand ready to deliver the steady, transparent, and responsible governance that San Diego County desperately needs. It’s time to restore integrity and accountability to the Board of Supervisors.”
