*OJJDP Launches Webpage on New Medicaid and CHIP Policies Impacting Incarcerated Youth*

OJJDP has launched a webpage [ [link removed] ] of resources to help state, local, and Tribal jurisdictions learn about new statutory requirements to ensure the availability of Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) services for incarcerated youth (up to age 21, and former foster youth up to age 26).

On January 1, 2025, states will be able to use Medicaid funds to provide screening, diagnostic, and targeted case management services to support youth transitioning home from incarceration. States will also be allowed the option to offer a broader array of services to pretrial youth in detention.

The policy changes are a result of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023 [ [link removed] ] and give jurisdictions an opportunity to deepen their Continuum of Care [ [link removed] ] by investing in prevention and re-entry services to support youth’s physical and behavioral health outcomes.
