2024 was a big year for Higher Ground Labs and our broader movement—full of highs and lows. We are still in the process of learning, reflecting, and adjusting our approach to prepare for the future. As we near the end of the year, I am so grateful for you—the people who led our movement this cycle with dedication and excellence. From our founders to our partners to our funders, thank you for all you do to make our country and our world a more just place.

I am incredibly proud of the impact Higher Ground Labs has driven across the progressive tech ecosystem. This cycle, we supported 60+ portfolio companies, whose tools and innovations saved campaigns and progressive organizations time and money—helping them run smarter, more effective campaigns when it mattered most. We ran our Progressive AI Lab, training 3,626 practitioners on responsible technology, deploying hundreds of thousands of dollars to innovate with AI, and more. We also powered critical trainings and showcases to accelerate tech adoption and published forward-looking research on the future of political technology, be it at the Democratic National Convention or The Good Catch bug bounty program.

While the weight of this year’s election loss still lingers, these milestones remind me of the progress we’ve made and the opportunities ahead. We must meet this moment by accelerating, experimenting, and rewriting the playbook.

Holiday Wishes from the HGL Team

As we reflect on 2024 and look ahead to 2025, our team reflected on what we’re most proud of from this year—and what we’re excited to build in the year ahead.

I’m proud of the training and education role that the HGL team, Progressive AI Lab, and portfolio companies played in highlighting the role of responsible technology in this past electoral cycle. Looking toward 2025, I’m hopeful the political tech ecosystem can thoughtfully navigate this gray and nuanced path ahead to rebuild a stronger progressive movement.

I’m most proud of people within our movement’s ability to pivot, which we demonstrated when Kamala Harris became our presidential nominee. My hope for progressive political tech is that we pivot again by helping to innovate progressive communication and community building to create more inclusive and resilient political strategies.
