John,
The Trump administration has announced a terrifying plan to exploit the outdated, racist Alien Enemies Act (AEA) to detain and deport immigrants en masse.
This 18th-century law, last abused during World War II to intern Japanese Americans, could once again be used to tear families apart and strip immigrants of their fundamental rights.
Trump is pushing to classify millions as “invaders” to justify mass deportations starting January 20, 2025. This would mean indefinite detention without due process for countless individuals, erasing decades of progress in civil liberties and democracy.
We can’t let this happen. Congress has the power to stop this by passing the Neighbors Not Enemies Act, introduced by Sen. Mazie Hirono and Rep. Ilhan Omar. This legislation will repeal the AEA, ensuring it can never again be weaponized for state-sanctioned discrimination.
But it won’t pass without a massive wave of public pressure. Demand your representatives support the Neighbors Not Enemies Act.
If Trump succeeds, it won’t just devastate immigrant families, it will set a precedent that threatens everyone’s civil liberties. Detention without due process goes against the very foundation of our democracy, making it easier for any administration to target marginalized communities under the guise of national security.
The AEA is a relic of our darkest chapters, used to justify oppression in the name of security. Repealing it would send a clear message: America will not tolerate xenophobia and fear-mongering disguised as law.
By repealing the Alien Enemies Act, we uphold the principle that justice is blind to race, nationality, or origin. Trump and his allies must hear loud and clear that our communities are united against hate and injustice.
Our democracy depends on safeguarding the rights of the most vulnerable.
Let’s make it clear: Immigrants are our neighbors, not our enemies. Help break Trump's mass deportation machine!
Together, we can fight back against Trump’s mass deportation machine and ensure a future rooted in justice, equality, and compassion.
