Patriot,
The budget battle is still raging in Congress, and your calls
have been tremendously effective.
The 1,500-page, pork-laden bill House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA)
tried to ram through the chamber is dead.
Now, Democrats are threatening to shut down the government -
basically no matter what else Republicans pass.
Well, bring it on. Democrats will own the shutdown - which starts
AT MIDNIGHT.
Yesterday, the Republicans tried a "compromise" - a much shorter
bill, a "clean" continuation (of the Pelosi-era, Covid-era
budget) with no cuts and a two-year suspension of the debt
ceiling.
38 Republicans voted NO, pointing out they had just last year
vacated former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for having
done the same thing.
President Trump attacked the Republicans who voted against this
wasteful spending bill, but it would have failed anyway, without
their support, because almost every Democrat voted against it and
it needed a 2/3 vote to pass under suspension of the rules, as it
must.
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), one of the 38 who voted NO on the
so-called "clean" continuation, proposed dividing the issues into
their own bills:
-one vote on the "clean" continued spending
-one vote on the debt limiting
-one vote on disaster relief
-one vote on farm bailouts
On X, Elon Musk voiced his support for the idea.
And Vivek Ramaswamy pointed out the new "clean" continued
spending bill, hailed as being "short" at only 116 pages, could
be much shorter - just change the date the last one expires to
March 14, 2025 and call it a day.
Please make another quick call to your U.S. representative at
(202) 224-3121 and tell them to pass a completely clean
continuing resolution without all of the garbage and billions
more in spending.
Make them vote on it, and if Democrats vote NO to cause a
shutdown, it's on them.
They could even pass it under regular order, which would take
additional days to get through Congress but only require a
majority to pass.
There is no reason to compromise now and concede to massive
spending increases when our country is already on the brink of a
debt crisis.
Tell them to hold the line. Call your representative at (202)
224-3121.
Enough is enough. STOP SPENDING MORE MONEY!

John McCardell
