Democrat,

This week, New Jersey’s Electoral College convened to formally cast the state’s 14 votes for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, concluding the final phase of this election cycle. Despite the challenges presented by the November election results, New Jersey Democrats reaffirmed their steadfast commitment to the peaceful transition of power—an enduring principle of our democracy.

The 14 electors who proudly represented New Jersey were:

John Currie, Passaic County Democratic Chair and former NJDSC Chair
Saily Avelenda, former NJDSC Executive Director
Charles Boddy, Warren County Democratic Chair
Dyese Davis, Monmouth County Democratic Chair
Parimal Garg, former Chief Counsel to the Murphy Administration
Yazminelly Gonzalez, Trenton Councilwoman
Robyn Grodner, Jersey City attorney and education advocate
Jacqueline Jones, Director of Human Resources for the County of Essex
Phil Kramer, Franklin Twp Mayor
Marget Martin, NJDSC Chief Operating Officer and former Arkansas Democratic State Vice Chair
David Matos Jr., retired public servant
Ian Mosley, Camden Democratic State Committee member and LGBTQ+ advocate
Assemblywoman Ellen Park
Middlesex County Sheriff Mildred Scott

Together, they reaffirmed New Jersey’s strong commitment to our democratic values.

It was an honor to take part in this event, recognizing these individuals who represented New Jersey with such pride and purpose. Moments like these remind us of the importance of unity and the enduring strength of our democratic traditions. As we move forward, this ceremony stands as a testament to the values that guide our work and the progress we continue to pursue together.

Governor Phil Murphy announced on Monday that he is granting clemency to 36 individuals, marking the first use of his pardon power. This initiative includes 33 pardons and 3 commutations, reflecting the Governor's commitment to addressing inequities in the criminal justice system and providing individuals with a second chance to rebuild their lives.

"New Jersey is the state for second chances," said Governor Murphy , and through this historic clemency effort, these individuals now have the opportunity to move forward, free from the lasting consequences of their past convictions.

This week, President Biden signed several important bills into law, continuing his administration's focus on key issues like environmental protection, disaster recovery, and transportation safety. Notable measures include the “Pensacola and Perdido Bays Estuary of National Significance Act,” which prioritizes the selection of these bays for national recognition, and the “Disaster Contract Improvement Act,” which aims to enhance FEMA’s disaster recovery efforts. These actions highlight the President’s ongoing dedication to addressing critical challenges and advancing progress for the American people.
