Overview: As of the time of this posting, Congress has yet to pass a continuing resolution, despite the funding deadline for the federal government set for today, Dec. 20. Chances for a shutdown have increased even as House Speaker Mike Johnson continues his efforts at putting forth a plan. According to the Washington Post, the deal being put forth now includes extending current fiscal levels into March, a farm bill for one year and $110 billion for natural disasters, without provisions related to the debt ceiling.

Economy: In the week ending December 14, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 220,000, a decrease of 22,000 from the previous week's unrevised level of 242,000. The 4-week moving average was 225,500, an increase of 1,250 from the previous week's unrevised average of 224,250.
