Dear John,
A Republican-led government shutdown would deliver devastating consequences for hardworking families in Illinois and across the 7th Congressional District. It would disrupt critical programs that families rely on, damage our economy, and jeopardize national security by forcing military personnel and federal workers to go without pay. In Illinois' 7th District alone, nearly 19,000 individuals—including over 5,000 infants and 10,000 children—could lose access to essential nutrition assistance through WIC, while over 10,000 federal workers would face furloughs or unpaid labor.
The ripple effects of such a shutdown would harm small businesses, interrupt essential services, and create uncertainty for millions of Illinois residents, from those flying through our airports to farmers and rural families relying on federal loans. House Republicans must act responsibly to prevent these unnecessary hardships and protect the well-being of our communities.
