Like so many people across our state and country, I am concerned about the potential government shutdown. By abandoning a bipartisan budget bill, Republicans in Congress have jeopardized our national security, economic stability, and the well-being of countless Maryland families—just as we enter the holiday season.
From the federal employees residing in Maryland, who will be forced to go without a paycheck, to the families that rely on federal benefits, which will be delayed, Maryland is home to hundreds of thousands of residents who will be affected by this shutdown.
The spending bill also included essential disaster relief and recovery aid for projects around the country, including the rebuilding of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.
