Last Call for the Gifting for Families Holiday Drive!
This year we had a record 400 teens signed up, twice as many as last year! Even though the collection phase of our Gifting for Families Holiday Drive has concluded, we continue to receive requests for assistance.
As we enter the last few weeks of the holiday season, please consider making a donation to ensure we can continue to meet the need for the families in our community. Please go to our donate page <[link removed]> and select Holiday Drive from the drop-down menu.

Healthy Families from Alexandria and Arlington Celebrate the Holidays Together
The NVFS Healthy Families <[link removed]> program is a home-visiting initiative that supports expectant and new parents by promoting positive parenting skills and enhancing child health and development. Every three months, staff organize a special gathering for the families to foster connection and celebrate their progress.
This month, 25 Healthy Families from Arlington and Alexandria joined enthusiastic NVFS staff and community supporters for a joyful holiday celebration. The event featured festive activities like cookie decorating, wreath-making, raffles, and photos with Santa. Each younger child received a stocking filled with small treats, while older children were gifted board games. Families also had the opportunity to “shop” for clothing generously donated by Women Giving Back, a local nonprofit partner.
The event wouldn’t have been complete without a delicious Mexican buffet from Tacombi, culminating in a graduation cake to honor an Arlington family’s successful completion of the Healthy Families program.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the incredible Northern Virginia community for making this celebration possible! Special thanks to Anthem HealthKeepers Plus for their grant, which helped cover much of the event’s costs; Amazon Web Services for donating gifts, candy, and stockings; Elevation Church for contributing board games; and Stanley Martin Homes for providing stockings and snack packs. Finally, we are immensely grateful for the volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to bring everything together.

Burke & Herbert Bank Donates Thousands So Far Through Goals for Good
Burke & Herbert Bank has donated $ 11,800 to NVFS so far through its Goals for Good program. Through this unique partnership with Monumental Sports, Burke & Herbert Bank contributes $ 100 to NVFS for every goal scored by the Washington Capitals during the 2024 – 2025 season. Did You Know? Fun Facts About NVFS' 100-year Journey
Did you know that in 2013 NVFS’ Georgetown South Early Childhood Development center became the first center in Virginia to earn a five-star rating, the highest designation available from the Virginia Star Quality Initiative (VSQI)? Programs participating in the VSQI distinguished themselves through staff education and qualifications, teacher-child interactions, structure (like staff-to-child ratio) and environment and instruction. In 2016, additional NVFS centers received the same five-star designation. We are proud of our high-quality Early Childhood Education <[link removed]> programs because every child deserves the necessary tools to build a healthy, successful life.
