Dear John,
Tonight, Iranian Americans across the nation will celebrate Shab-e-Yalda, an ancient Persian holiday marking the Winter Solstice and the longest night of the year. This cherished tradition brings loved ones together to recite poetry, enjoy pomegranates and watermelon, and reflect on the passing year.
As we reflect, 2024 was a year of profound challenge and change. From the brutal wars in the Middle East and direct military strikes between Iran and Israel, to attacks on our fundamental rights, including the freedom to travel and own property, and assaults on our democracy—this year has tested us in unimaginable ways. Yet, through it all, we have remained resolute in our mission to prevent a U.S. war with Iran, resist discrimination, and build lasting power for our community.

But tonight is not just about surviving the longest night. Shab-e-Yalda reminds us to celebrate the triumph of light over darkness—a timeless symbol of hope and renewal. Even in the most challenging times, the sun will rise again. And it is in this spirit of resilience that we must prepare for the days ahead.
What makes Yalda truly powerful is the reminder that our greatest strength in the darkest times comes from the community that surrounds us. For all of us at NIAC, it’s supporters like you who inspire and empower us to press forward, no matter the obstacles. As Rumi so beautifully said, “Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.” This rings truer than ever for us here on the team, and we are endlessly grateful for the support you give.
With much gratitude,
Jamal, Sara, Ryan, Myriam, Etan, Ehsan
P.S. Today we are also exactly one month away from inauguration day. With Trump's return to office, our community faces urgent challenges – but also potential opportunities. We are ready to prevent war and protect the rights of our community – but we cannot do this alone. Please consider making a donation to our End of Year campaign so we have the resources to prevail.
