Dear Friend,
Our communities are ending the year strong with actions across the country to affirm our values and let our leaders know we are here to stay! In the face of uncertainty, we are not backing down.
Instead, we are meeting challenges head on by turning to those who we can always count on — each other. Simply put, we got us.
I had the pleasure of emceeing one such event in Sacramento. In a matter of days, partners and allies from across the state of California mobilized hundreds in the streets. We made our presence known and demanded that our leaders do everything in their power to stop deportations and protect immigrant Californians.
Take a look at the power we demonstrated:
Specifically, we called on Governor Gavin Newsom to use his powers to stop deportations by issuing pardons. By doing so — with the simple stroke of a pen — Governor Newsom could take a major step toward keeping his promise of “Trump-proofing” the state of California. Issuing pardons to community leaders like myself would go a long way in the fight to keep families together and ensure our communities can live in safety and dignity. You can read more about our march in Prism, who I talked to for their story!
And if you haven’t already, please take a moment to sign the petition to Gov. Newsom asking him to issue my pardon:
Finally, as we look ahead to the new year, I want to thank you for your ongoing support. I hope you can take some quality time with your loved ones this holiday season.
FFI will be back in the New Year ready to continue the fight. We hope you’ll be by our side, because remember: We got us!
In solidarity,
Laura Hernandez Executive Director Freedom for Immigrants
