Shirley Chisholm is my most inspiring and influential political figure. The quote above is a call to action and audacity that has motivated and molded a generation of leaders. In the meantime, we witnessed Hillary Clinton become the first woman to win a presidential nomination by a major party, Barack Obama become the first African American president, and Vice President Kamala Harris be sworn-in as the first female vice president and highest ranking female official in our country’s history. Even so . . .

There’s a time to stand and a time to sit. Rest is also a form of resistance. My holiday wish for you is that you join me in resting, refueling, and celebrating the holiday season so we are ready to continue the fight in the new year. 2,604,449 North Carolinians believed in our shared vision. Together, we are a force, and we’re not done.
